The rediscovery of the Neapolitan baroque operas by Porpora, Vinci, and Sarro is reviving interest in the countertenor repertoire. A whole aspect of Neapolitan music remains to be explored, as shown by this recording of unknown arias by Leonardo Vinci. Operas such as "Gismondo re di Polonia," "Medo," "Ernelinda," "Astianatte," "Eraclea," and "Catone in Utica," from which the young Italian countertenor Filippo Mineccia has extracted and compiled a series of arias for his first solo album. His astonishing mastery and superb technique serve this repertoire wonderfully, accompanied by Stile Galante conducted by Stefano Aresi.
