Blue Hour

Description

A saxophonist with a pronounced taste for Rhythm 'n' Blues and Soul, Stanley Turrentine enabled jazz to broaden its audience. Far from the standards of a "precious" jazz, listened to only by initiates, his very bluesy chord progressions made his jazz popular music. Recorded between August and December 1960, ‘Blue Hour’ was finally released in March 1961. This gem of the genre features a trio that saw some of the greatest saxophonists of the era, such as Sonny Stitt, Lester Young, and Lou Donaldson, accompanied by a bluesy Stanley Turrentine with a precious and delicate melancholy. This remastered 180-gram vinyl edition, sourced from the original tapes, is now available.
