SQÜRL was formed by Jim Jarmusch and Carter Logan in 2009 to create the music for Jim's film, The Limits of Control. More than a decade later, and with numerous EPs and soundtracks to their credit, SQÜRL is releasing their first album. Silver Haze was produced by Randall Dunn, who has also worked with Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Zola Jesus, and Marissa Nadler, all artists that SQÜRL cites as sources of inspiration. The album features collaborations with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Anika, and Marc Ribot, resulting in a work whose energy evokes that of the New York School of Poets, a school they nod to in the title "John Ashbery Takes a Walk," which features Charlotte Gainsbourg and transforms two of Ashbery's poems into an irresistible melodic siren song. Silver Haze draws on SQÜRL's passion for creating richly textured sounds, refined by a keen ear for production. The band is known for playing with everything from analog synths to broken radios, and for drawing inspiration from painters, writers, and street birds. Silver Haze is a poetic journey of spoken word, dynamic instrumentals, drone riffs, and distorted effects, featuring tubular bells and a cello in addition to their signature delay stacks, enveloping the listener in a warm oscillation that is both delicate and devastating.
