Speed Limit

Description

Led by keyboardist Jean-Louis Bucchi, Speed Limit was a fleeting formation in the jazz-rock fusion scene in France during the mid-seventies. Given the members that made it up, one might wonder why it left so few traces. The names of Yochk'o Seffer (saxophonist of Zao), Jannick TOP (bassist of Magma), George Jinda (Hungarian-born American drummer later known for his work with Special Efx), Joël Dugrenot (bassist of Clearlight), and Michel Ripoche (violinist of Zoo), among others, should have been enough to attract attention. And upon listening to the two unique albums by Speed Limit, one can only be struck by this blatant injustice! Released in 1974, the self-titled debut album showcases excellent jazz-rock fusion typical of the era. Twelve months later, the band diversified, notably with the inclusion of strings. Another major point of interest is the presence of a pre-version of the future "Soleil D'Ork" by Magma, performed by Jannick TOP's fuzz-bass, and titled here "African Dance n°3." Let’s hope that the reissues by Musea will bring Speed Limit the recognition it has deserved all these years.
