Two years after winning the Mercury Music Prize 2009 for her first record, the 28-year-old Londoner SPEECH DEBELLE delivers her second opus, "Freedom Of Speech". Through this album, the singer steps out of her introspection and engages with the world around her, to defend the themes of political revolution and love. Sometimes sharp, punctuated by synths and accompanied by a clear and incisive flow, the sound so rich and impactful of this album, which seems different with each listen, has been shaped with the help of KWES, a young producer from South London who is also responsible for DELS's first album and a collaboration with DAMON ALBARN for the DRC project for the confederation of NGOs: Oxfam. With brutal honesty, uncompromising, ambitious and featuring female identity and power, SPEECH DEBELLE holds the most exciting album of the coming year. It notably includes the stunning track "Blaze Up A Fire" featuring REALISM and ROOTS MANUVA, which the singer unveiled this summer in response to the riots in the British capital.
