This deluxe edition of Ultramega OK is the result of a long-standing idea from Soundgarden: to remix and correct their first album. Ultramega OK was originally released in 1988 via SST Records. The band, dissatisfied with the work of their producer Drew Canulette and the final mix, quickly wanted to remix the album for subsequent pressings. However, during the Ultramega OK tour, Soundgarden signed with the major American label A&M and released the massive Louder Than Love a few months later, which opened the doors to ultra(-mega)-success while the remix project for Ultramega OK was put on hold. In 2016, after years of international success, a breakup, a reunion, many albums, and tours, the band finally retrieved the original tapes of Ultramega OK and found time to remix them. The four men were joined by their friend and engineer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Skin Yard), who worked on the album and addressed its weaknesses: he remedied the sound that the band hated. Soundgarden takes advantage of this reissue to release six unreleased versions of tracks from Ultramega OK, recorded in 1987 on an 8-track tape by Jack Endino and Chris Hanzsek at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle.
