The classic collection "Studio One Funk" from Soul Jazz Records, reissued in 3 exclusive formats for its 18th anniversary! Studio One Funk consists of rare and unreleased Reggae Funk tracks from the vaults of Studio One. Since the birth of funk in America, this sound has been an omnipresent ingredient in the melting pot of Studio One's musical production. The music on this record is a combination of originals, American covers, and versions of existing Studio One tracks. Jackie Mittoo shows his appreciation for Booker T and The MGs, the studio group of the famous Stax Records of Memphis, with "Hang Em High," itself a cover of a film soundtrack by Dominic Frontiere. Incredibly, this version has never been released before. The super funky "Melting Pot" by Booker T is also covered by the little-known group Underground Vegetables. Among other covers is the classic from Isaac Hayes' Blaxploitation soundtrack, "Shaft," covered by Cedric Im Brooks - another unreleased gem, directly from the master tape. Add to this original tracks from the great studio musicians of Studio One, including Leroy Sibbles, Jackie Mittoo, Leroy Sibbles, Eric Frater, Leroy 'Horsemouth' Wallace, Richard Ace, Vin Gordon, and many more, and you have one of the finest selections of reggae and funk you have ever heard.
