GIPSY RHUMBA: The Original Rhythm of Gipsy Rhumba in Spain 1965-74

Description

Remastered and reissued, Gipsy Rhumba by Soul Jazz Records is a compilation praised upon its release in 2012 for its unique exploration of the intersections between Latin, funk, flamenco, and rumba rhythms. The project returns in a deluxe double vinyl edition as well as a limited CD, accompanied by new liner notes and photographs. The first compilation outside Spain to seriously focus on the history of gipsy rumba, the album traces the birth of this hybrid style that emerged in the Catalan gypsy community in the early 1960s. This genre blends traditional flamenco, Cuban and Caribbean rumba, as well as American rock'n'roll influences. Conceived by Spanish specialists of the genre, David El Indio and José Manuel Gómez (Gufi), the project highlights this unique cultural encounter, enriched by the photographs of Jacques Léonard and detailed notes retracing this little-known musical history.
