Coxsone's Music 2: The Sound of Young Jamaica

Description

This is the second collection to bring together most of the visionary producer Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd's early recordings, produced with the most talented young Jamaican artists and musicians, who helped build the world of reggae music in the decades following Jamaica's Independence. These recordings took place at a time when Sir Coxsone was conquering all the dancefloors of Kingston in the late 1950s - early 1960s, with his first Downbeat Sound System, where sounds were tested on dubplates at night to see the audience's reactions - the most popular of which were then commercialized. This album covers a multitude of styles - Jamaican Rhythm & Blues, jazz, gospel, protoska, Rastafarian - all of which were used to create the new sounds of Jamaican reggae that Sir Coxsone and his guest artists would create at Studio One, which opened its doors in 1963.
