Muggs Present ... Chapter I

For the first album by Cypress Hill DJ and House of Pain producer DJ Muggs, an excellent cast of MCs was assembled, including most of the best in hip-hop. It is hard to expect anything other than uniform excellence from an album that includes Dr. Dre, RZA and GZA/Genius of Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, Mobb Deep, Wyclef Jean of Fugees, Cypress Hill and MC Eiht, and although the diversity may seem a little intimidating, Muggs’ mostly uniform production style ties the album together well. Most collaboration albums end up being spoiled by too many cooks, but Muggs Presents the Soul Assassins, Chapter I is that rare exception. Among the many highlights are “Puppet Master” by Dr. Dre & B Real, “Third World” by RZA/GZA and “Move Ahead” by KRS-One.
