In 1957, Sonny Rollins left New York for Los Angeles, where he recorded a series of albums influenced by West Coast sounds. Illustrated by an iconoclastic cover depicting the tenor saxophonist as a cowboy, 'Way Out West' embraces cool jazz by alternating originals, standards, and cowboy songs, including "Wagon Wheels" and Johnny Mercer's "I’m an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande)".
This reissue is part of the audiophile "Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds" collection and features new analog mastering from the master tapes by Bernie Grundman, as well as the original cover art and liner notes in meticulous packaging.
