On June 23, Classica will release box set No. 2 of its CHOC collection, dedicated to the legendary recordings in the history of the record. As summer and the Aix-en-Provence Festival of Lyric Art approach, this 3-CD box set pays tribute to Mozart and his iconic operas produced at the Festival – Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, Cosi Fan Tutte – featuring a selection of excerpts from the recordings of 1956 and 1957, conducted by Hans Rosbaud and performed by the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire de Paris. The fate of the Aix Festival is closely linked to that of Mozart's operas. Until the mid-20th century, Mozart's lyrical works were relatively unknown in France, or poorly represented, unlike abroad where the composer was interpreted in a deeper and more authentic manner. It was in Aix, starting with the Festival's launch in 1948, that Mozart's operas finally received excellence, thanks to its organizer, Gabriel Dussurget, and under the musical direction of Hans Rosbaud. It was a resounding success and the kickoff of a "Mozartmania" that has never stopped. Since that date, not a year goes by without two of Mozart's great operas being performed in the Cour de l'Archevêché.
