Description

A country of liberty open to the world, a democracy concerned with human rights, a young nation in full economic expansion, the United States attracted emigrants of all origins throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. For better or worse, they personified a land of redemption for the composers invoked by Ophélie Gaillard. After *Alvorada*, her travelling cello leads us in the footsteps of Bloch, Korngold, Prokofiev, Chava Alberstein and Giora Feidmann, singing of their exile, whether endured or deliberately chosen. She makes us vibrate to the sound of film music (Korngold's Concerto), a prayer (*From Jewish Life*), a Hebrew narrative (*Schelomo*), a lullaby, a wedding dance... The festive spirit, tenderness, and religious contemplation—all facets of the daily life and culture of several generations of Jewish migrants told by Ophélie Gaillard's humanistic bow.
