After thirteen years of hibernation, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, the most gloriously unclassifiable American band, has emerged from its stasis to proudly announce the imminent release of its fourth album, Of The Last Human Being. The album marks the first release from AVANT NIGHT - a new label led by Nick Ohler and supported by Joyful Noise Recordings. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, composed of multi-instrumentalists and singers Nils Frykdahl, Carla Kihlstedt, Michael "Iago" Mellender, Matthias Bossi, and Dan Rathbun, plays an arsenal of instruments ranging from the most standard (drums, electric guitars, bass, electric violin) to the rarest (bass harmonica, nyckelharpa, marxophone) to the most handcrafted (“Slide-Piano Log,” “Electric Pancreas,” “Pedal-Action Wiggler”). The band has always evaded easy categorization, garnering praise across the realms of contemporary classical music, progressive rock, industrial music, metal, avant-garde improvisation, and many more. Their music, both brutal and bucolic, enveloping and unsettling, tends toward lengthy epics interspersed with mysterious field recordings.
