Formed in Olympia, Washington, in 1994 in response to the North American riot grrrl scene of the 1990s, SLEATER-KINNEY established itself as a major punk-rock band, earning along the way the title of “best American rock band” (Time Magazine, Greil Marcus). The album No Cities To Love is their first since “The Woods” in 2005. Carrie Brownstein, a member of the band, speaks of it in these terms: “We are possessed on this album: we passionately resurrect the band — all the experience we’ve had of it and what it means to us.” But No Cities To Love is not an album of remembrance, but one of self-reinvention. The unmatched synergy of Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss is reborn to create new sounds and tell new stories. “I’ve always thought that Corin and Carrie were musical soulmates,” says Weiss. “Taking a break brought them closer together: the result is an album grappling with the themes of love, power and redemption.”
