The musical personality of Simone Kermes, her temperament, her charisma, and of course, her vocal art have already been praised by numerous awards. The musician born in Leipzig is a great lover of baroque music. That is why her latest album, "Inferno e Paradiso," mainly contains arias by baroque composers who have long been among the singer's favorites. Notably Georg Friedrich Handel, Johann Adolph Hasse, and Antonio Caldara. In this program themed around the seven deadly sins and the seven virtues, Simone Kermes once again opens new perspectives on baroque singing by using special arrangements. Her selection also includes pop and rock songs by Lady Gaga ("Poker Face"), Udo Jürgens ("Aber bitte mit Sahne"), Sting ("Fields of Gold"), and Led Zeppelin ("Stairway to Heaven") that Finnish composer and arranger Jarkko Riihimäki has transformed into baroque hits. As Simone Kermes explains: "Some 'airs' by Sting or Led Zeppelin sound as baroque as if they had been dozing since the 17th century on London shelves." For Sony Classical, she recorded these songs, as well as the ten selected original baroque arias, with her instrumental ensemble Amici Veneziani - in the case of "Non hapiù pace" by Johann Adolph Hasse, it is even a world premiere.
