Laid unfinished at the composer's death, Bruckner's 9th Symphony has always been accepted in its form of 3 movements. While many have accepted the idea that it ended with an adagio, despite the composer's contrary indications, there have been numerous attempts to provide a final movement. Today marks the release of the first complete recording of the 2011 edition by musicologists Samale/Mazzuca/Phillips/Cohrs, probably the closest to the composer's intentions, thanks to 600 measures left by Bruckner, as well as drafts and some handwritten sequences. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Berlin Philharmonic after having given the complete symphony for the first time in concert on February 24, 2012, at Carnegie Hall.
