Hypnos

Description

Hypnos, God of Sleep… The desire to recreate a ritual often inspires the recordings of Simon-Pierre Bestion. His wish here was to recreate a Requiem service, "this ceremony accompanying the passage of a living being to the beyond while supporting the emotions of those who attend. Using the freedom that this recreation offered me, I constructed this program without boundaries between repertoires or musical aesthetics – medieval, Renaissance, and 20th century – selecting works for their enchanting musical material, their hypnotic and meditative dimension." Byzantine intonation chants coexist with the guttural voices of Giacinto Scelsi or the English vocality of John Tavener; the Franco-Flemish polyphony of the Renaissance responds to the influences of Eastern or Western spiritualities present in contemporary works.
