A new recording dedicated to the great roles of Wagnerian heldentenor has become a rarity today, as this type of voice can be counted on the fingers of one hand. But Simon O'Neill's performances in major international theaters have earned him acclaim as one of today's most remarkable Heldentenors. Born in New Zealand in 1971, the artist completed his training at the Juilliard Opera Center in 2002. It was the great bass-baritone Donald McIntyre who guided him towards Wagner, and once he became the understudy for Placido Domingo in Siegmund from Die Walküre in New York, his career was made. Whether at the Met or Covent Garden, he was recently described as the "Wagnerian tenor of his generation." Today, this recording is released, which includes both the heroic roles of Siegmund and Siegfried, as well as the more lyrical roles of Lohengrin and Parsifal. The artist demonstrates a beautiful projection, insolent high notes, and a perfectly idiomatic style in this repertoire.
