'American Railroad' is the ambitious new project from the Silkroad Ensemble, whose artistic direction is led by the renowned country and blues singer Rhiannon Giddens. Touring the United States in November 2024, the project highlights the impact of African American, Chinese, Irish, Indigenous, and other immigrant communities displaced by the construction of the transcontinental railroad. Like the Silk Road, this network spread cultures across the United States, transforming the North American landscape. Giddens states: "American Railroad shines a light on those who have been erased from history. This project begins in the past, but its impact persists today."
