Quatuor avec piano opus 112 Quintette avec piano opus 76

Description

The series of symphonies and string quartets are at the center of Krzysztof Meyer’s output as one of the finest composers of our time. His mastery of chamber music resources is also highlighted in the two works on this CD. The Piano Quartet, Op. 112, recorded here for the first time, is unusual in Meyer’s output given its one-movement structure with contrasting sections. Elegy, threnody and caprice coexist in an intense interaction. By its scale and impact, the Piano Quintet recalls similar pieces from the Brahms era.
