The folk-rock duo presents a new intimate album between catchy rock and delicate tracks. SHOVELS AND ROPE, the folk-rock duo from South Carolina composed of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, releases a new album on New West Records, Little Seeds. They explore a new dimension in their music, with bold, sincere, and very personal new songs. This collection of 12 tracks produced by Trent follows Swimmin' Time from 2014 and O'Be Joyful, the 2012 album for which the duo won the Americana Music Award for Song of the Year and the Best New Artist of the Year. Little Seeds is entirely played by the two musicians, ranging from groovy and catchy rock to more delicate acoustic tracks. Many of the album's tracks have been shaped by the tumultuous events the couple has experienced over the past two years. Hearst discovered she was pregnant when Trent learned that his father had Alzheimer's disease. This obvious cycle of life unfolding before them has been a source of inspiration. They also decided to pay tribute to a friend who died in a car accident through This Ride, as well as to American musicians who influenced them, like Garth Hudson, to whom the track The Last Hawk is dedicated. Trent and Hearst are aware that creating Little Seeds has led them into a previously unexplored and unimaginable creative territory.
