SHLOHMO
DARK RED
SHLOHMO is certainly not a familiar name to you, but this is not his first attempt. The young American producer, based in Los Angeles and a member of the Wedidit collective, has already released a first album and a multitude of EPs, not to mention producing tracks for a wide variety of artists like Jeremih, Banks, and Laura Mvula.
Henry Laufer, by his real name, grew up listening to the sounds of Amon Tobin and Flying Lotus, which explains his attachment to a blend of sparse electronic layers and metallic rhythms. This prodigy quickly made a name for himself, and after several projects released on Friends Of Friends and Wedidit, he is now releasing his second opus on the True Panther label.
Shlohmo worked for two long years on the production of this album, recorded in the studio he built in his Los Angeles apartment, using equipment from the 80s belonging to his father. The recording was made with difficulty; the artist lost close friends during this period, which gave the album its dark tone.
Dark Red is an experimental and gloomy album with melodies that are both unsettling and captivating, as heard on its first single, Buried. The American beatmaker describes his album as if the band Electric Wizard were dabbling in R&B – quite a program!
