Kananayé

Description

In the streets of Burkina Faso, "ka nana ye," which means "it's not easy," resonates everywhere, while implying that things will be alright. With the album Kananayé, whose title reflects this popular philosophy, things can only get better. Recorded by Peter Soldan at Dada Studios in Brussels, by Kaskade at Studio Hanou in Bobo-Dioulasso, and then mixed and mastered in New York, the album consists of seven original compositions, in addition to a cover of the American traditional "Sea Lion Woman," which was beautifully interpreted by Nina Simone. From ballads to trance, refined and radiant, these songs project into contemporary music while being deeply rooted. The project weaves together threads from various traditions and intertwines centuries-old rural practices with trends from modern metropolises. Sometimes vibrant, poignant, or festive, always sunny, the album breathes the joy that its participants feel in playing together.
