It is the culmination of four years of passionate work. Blending the music of Clément Janequin or Roland de Lassus with new works by Betsy Jolas, Mike Svoboda, Jannik Giger, and Jean-Christophe Groffe, "mutations - the chimeras of Clément Janequin" is designed as a complete sound object whose dramaturgy invites the listener on a journey through surprising landscapes. "mutations" serves as a link between Renaissance music and contemporary music. This recording brings together the thélème ensemble, specialized in the interpretation of ancient music, and the saxophone quartet XASAX, specialized in the interpretation of contemporary music. Both ensembles invited composer Betsy Jolas and composer Mike Svoboda to "recycle" works from the French Renaissance to each compose a new piece. Thus, for the centerpiece of the program, Betsy Jolas has masterfully submitted a song by Roland de Lassus to a reinterpretation for the eight musicians (LASSUS-FANTAISIE). The German-American composer Mike Svoboda exploits the presence of the four saxophones to enhance the overflowing energy of Janequin's song "Les Cris de Paris." The program also includes works by Clément Janequin, Roland de Lassus, and creations by Jannik Giger and Jean-Christophe Groffe.
