«Impulses of compositions». The desire to "take off and flee very far away". This is what gave birth to Domesticated. Six years after the release of L’Aventura (2014), after signing some film music for pleasure and writing an album for Dita Von Teese, it was time for Sébastien Tellier to return to the necessary intimacy for his personal creation. The aim of this sixth solo and studio album? "To transform the everyday into the exceptional," Tellier replies. Who escapes domestic tasks, except for dictators? They are part of the human condition that we all share. Without obligations, without efforts, can a man really be happy?".
Although he feels very comfortable alone in the studio, the artist pushes his limits and innovates his artistic process, in search of an ultra-current sound. To do this, he calls on Nk. F, a regular with PNL among others for the mixing of the album, and surrounds himself with European or Anglo-Saxon musicians and beatmakers, who offer Tellier their expertise and enthusiasm: the English Jam City, John Carroll Kirby and Daniel Stricker from Mind Gamers, Varnish La Piscine, a young gifted Swiss, the late Philippe Zdar, with whom he recorded the delightful "Venezia", a few months before the latter's passing.
This is his densest, most coherent album. In a word, solid. At 45, childishness is no longer in play for Sébastien Tellier. But fantasy remains, transcended by the harmonies of a pop nourished by R’n’B, new wave, reverb, or acoustic sounds. Both Parisian and Californian, inhabited by ghosts from Detroit or Manchester, open to the world – real or imaginary, it doesn't matter. The important thing here is to talk about oneself while talking about others.
