Twenty years of friendship. Already seventeen collaborative tracks before even thinking about a common album. A complicity forged over time, on stage as well as in the studio. Then came Portes du désert. A first joint project, arriving exactly at the right moment. An intimate album. An intense interlude of 10 days and 10 nights. An adventure that, on paper, could have ended there. And yet. The stage had other plans.
To accompany the dates of the Portes du désert tour, Scylla and Furax create an unreleased track: Hayawan. Designed for live performance, the track quickly becomes a central moment of the concerts. Performed in the heart of the pits, amidst the audience, it triggers a rare, almost animal cohesion. A raw and collective energy. Something is happening. The idea of a reissue is born naturally. One track. Then two. Then three. Then five. Then twelve. Until the evidence imposes itself: fifteen tracks later, Jungle Noire is born. In contrast to the desert expanses of the previous project, this new album dives into the heart of the chaos of metropolises. Here, noise reigns. Silence is rare. Instincts observe, confront, express themselves without filter. The jungle is not vegetal: it is urban.
The rap is dense, frontal, unapologetic. The fundamentals are there: technicality, placements, incisive writing. But poetry has not disappeared. It circulates differently. Between the lines. In the contrasts. In this constant tension between control and instinct. Jungle Noire brings together several generations of Francophone rap and asserts a strong plurality in its proposal. IAM (Akhenaton & Shurik’n), Soprano & Alonzo, Caballero & JeanJass, Isha: an all-star cast that reflects mutual recognition and the ability to evolve in different fields without ever renouncing themselves. On Puis j’oublie, alongside Caballero & JeanJass, Scylla and Furax engage in a stylistic exercise that takes them out of their comfort zone and succeed with impressive ease. An additional proof of their artistic range.
On the production side, we find Lionel SoulChildren, Lox, Freaky Joe & La Madone, Kendo, Murer, Mehsah, and Dee Eye. The album alternates between sharp tracks: Hayawan, Rois de la jungle, Khabib (ft Alonzo & Soprano), Zénith true bangers made for the stage, with more atmospheric and immersive tracks like Horizons (ft ISHA), Violence, or On apprends rien, on se souvient. And then come the tracks that disarm with their emotion: Trône, dedicated to their mothers, or Dimanche basique, which celebrates those simple moments spent with their children.
Jungle Noire is totally disruptive. Where Portes du désert was introspective, almost meditative, this new album is urban, dense, and nerve-wracking. It explores that animal part that everyone carries within themselves, this constant tension between violence and beauty, between territory and vulnerability. An album that some may have been waiting for even before Portes du désert. The climax of this new era will be a unique date, currently at the Zénith de Paris. The ultimate end boss.
