American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton is the worthy heir to a long line of swing saxophonists who bridge the gap between the great history of jazz and the present, actively helping to revive and perpetuate the tradition. There is an obvious interdependence between an artist and their repertoire. This has always been the case and remains true for Scott Hamilton. According to him, a good song is fundamental to the expression of his art. He is equally capable of selecting many accessible standards as he is of finding the same timeless quality in works from other places and different times. He already proved this in 2013 with Swedish Ballads… & More (Stunt) – a pure homage to the fusion of traditional music and Swedish jazz. Similarly, for this project, he has crossed the Scandinavian waters to delve into Danish popular culture and beyond to produce this Danish Ballads… & More. In this beautiful program, Hamilton stands out for his calm, maturity, and a perspective that overlooks the overall sound of the group, here led by the inspired piano of Jan Lundgren and supported by the clear accompaniment of drummer Kristian Leth and bassist Hans Backenroth.
