Description
With Actéon, Marc-Antoine Charpentier revives, in this miniature drama, the myth of the hunter punished by Diana for having surprised the goddess at her bath. Actéon is performed here by a haute-contre voice, but a few months later, Charpentier reworks the work and entrusts the title role to a dessus. Carried by an ensemble dear to the composer — a few singers, two violins, two flutes and basso continuo — Actéon and Actéon changé en Biche reveal all his dramatic and expressive finesse.
