After realizing how much deforestation threatens the landscape of Costa Rica, metalheads are mobilizing to preserve the global ecosystem. Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel founded SAVAGE LANDS in 2022. Since then, the nonprofit organization has protected nearly 10,000m² of rainforest in Costa Rica. 100% of the royalties from their first album, 'Army of the Trees', will support the organization's preservation projects, including tree planting, the construction of natural sanctuaries, and the establishment of green zones. SAVAGE LANDS partners with local and global organizations like the Jane Goodall Institute, as well as many players in the metal industry. 'Army of the Trees' features several new metal species in the SAVAGE LANDS ecosystem. "The Last Howl" spits the growls of John Tardy from Obituary and the incredible solos of Sepultura's guitarist, Andreas Kisser. Heilung's master of ceremonies, Kai Uwe Faust, vibrates the black n' roll of "Black Rock Heart", while Maria Franz gracefully enhances the melancholic ballad "No Remedy" with her soothing voice. The Eurovision favorites, Lord of the Lost, shine on "Out of Breath" and Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy highlights the first single "Ruling Queen" with her alternation of clean singing and growls. "It is now time to take a stand," roars the band in a fierce rallying cry on the album's title track, with the help of Julien Truchan (Benighted) and other pillars of the French metal community.
