Nafas

Description

"Nafas" is the first original album by Salwa Jaradat, a Palestinian singer, researcher, and composer, whose work lies at the intersection of classical Arabic music, oral tradition, and feminist study. Rather than modernizing tradition, Jaradat views it as a living practice, rich with memory, emotion, and collective experience. Trained at the Edward Said National Conservatory in Palestine and in musicology in Lebanon, she approaches sound as a place of continuity and resistance. Developed during an intensive residency in Lebanon, Nafas brings together a small regional ensemble around her central, measured, and expansive voice, exploring the balance between silence and movement, intimacy and collectivity. The album listens attentively to the past while giving it a present and authoritative voice.
