Sainkho Namtchylak is one of the few women in Tuva, Siberia, to practice throat singing, a technique previously reserved for men. Battling misogyny at the start of her career, she has nonetheless released over forty albums. Sainkho and Grammy Award-winning producer Ian Brennan return with a collection of improvised songs recorded outdoors. Sainkho speaks four languages, but for this album, Where Water Meets Water: Bird Songs and Lullabies, she chose to sing phonetically in the "language of nature" with water as the main accompanying instrument. Her music is a blend of tradition and innovation, drawing from Siberian and Mongolian musical traditions to create contemporary, even avant-garde sounds, all bound together by her pure and enchanting voice.
