Wewantsounds is pleased to announce the release of one of the most sought-after Japanese albums from the 70s, the classic folk funk Mangekyou by Yoshiko Sai. Produced in 1975 by cult musician Yuji Ohno, the album blends Yoshiko Sai's songs and her crystalline voice with the funk accents of master Ohno. The album's reputation has grown among collectors over the years, and original copies now exchange hands for a fortune. The album is driven by Yoshiko Sai's unique songwriting touch, alternating between up-tempo tracks like “Yoru No Sei” and “Fuyu No Chikadou” and more atmospheric ballads such as “Tsubaki Wa Ochita Kaya” and “Yukionna.” It is worth noting that Ohno incorporates elements of traditional Japanese music into his sophisticated arrangements, using the shakuhachi (bamboo flute), tsuzumi (drum), and biwa (short-necked lute), giving the music its timeless quality. Mangekyou is available outside of Japan for the first time with remastered audio, original cover art, and a 4-page booklet featuring new liner notes by Paul Bowler.
