Hiddo Dhawr

Sahra Halgan is an iconic artist from Somaliland, a country in the Horn of Africa that has been independent since 1991 but is not recognized by the international community. It was during the 1980s, engaged in the terrible war against the dictatorship, that she received the nickname "Halgan," the fighter, and her songs forever won the hearts of an entire people. Exiled in France, it is in Lyon that she formed her group with Aymeric Krol, Maël Saletes, and Régis Monte. Her third album is the result of a sincere quest for authenticity and innovation, an unprecedented alliance between Somali song and roots rock, thus enriching the most unexpected landscapes of the global soundscape with her inspiration. It is called Hiddo Dhawr ("Preserve the culture"), which is also the name of the cultural center that Sahra founded in 2013 in Hargeisa.
