Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), the most famous Argentinian composer, was the grandson of Italian immigrants, and the melancholy of a lost and abandoned country lends his music a sweet and poignant note. He was unique in the way he wove the "sweet noises of life" into pure melodies and harmonies in his works.
