Description

The two piano sonatas by Rachmaninov performed by a virtuoso interpreter, Rustem Hayroudinoff. In the spring of 1907, when Rachmaninov was composing his first sonata, he confided to a friend: "This sonata is undoubtedly wild and very long, it lasts 45 minutes! In fact, I fear that no one will want to play it because of its complexity..." Indeed, the sonatas of Sergei Rachmaninov are moments of bravura for a pianist, and the Russian pianist Rustem Hayroudinoff has that sense of challenge that characterizes the greats: he records on the same disc Sonatas No. 1 and No. 2 by the composer, with a very relevant coupling, the Lullaby by Tchaikovsky Op. 16, arranged by Rachmaninov. Rustem Hayroudinoff here signs his 8th album, the previous ones having been released by Chandos and Decca, and confirms his great talent, like the young Russian prodigies of the moment such as Danil Trifonov or Denis Matsuev.
