Rudolf Buchbinder, the dean of Austrian pianists, plays the rarely heard transcriptions by Max Reger of the most beautiful lieder by his idol Johannes Brahms, about which Reger declared: "In the case of such masterpieces, any embellishment and any attempt to introduce a note of brilliance would be an act of unheard-of vandalism. I intend to adopt a different approach by bringing out the vocal line and, as far as possible, preserving the original accompaniment in the most faithful manner possible."
