Mighty Instrumentals R&B Style 1964

Description

Here is a selection of excellent instrumental R&B tracks from 1964, none of which were chart successes. There are guitar rockers from the West Coast, featuring fiery pieces by Johnny Talbot, Travis Wammack, and Johnny Hartsman. LA also provides the sounds of keyboard maestros: Gus Jenkins, and Ray Johnson and The Mixtures showcase the electric Wurlitzer on The Last Minute by Jimmy McGriff. The New York contributors include the Charlie Lucas Combo, The Jay-Hawks, Bill Doggett, and the David Rockingham Trio, whose Soulful Chant almost became a hit for Jerry Blaine's Josie Records. Doc Starkes & His Nite Riders hailed from New England, and Smokey Johnson was the top session drummer from New Orleans. There's even a Canadian group, the first band of future comedian Tommy Chong, Little Daddy and The Bachelors. And there you have it - sixteen Mighty Instrumentals R&B-Style from 1964.
