Description

The American soprano Renée Fleming returns with her first studio album in three years dedicated to the hypnotic repertoire of Scandinavian music.
The name of this album, Distant Light, refers to a poem from a new song cycle dedicated to Fleming, and of which she has the privilege of recording: The Strand Settings by Anders Hillborg.
This name also evokes the long summer evenings in Tennessee, which is the primary inspiration for Samuel Barber's masterpiece Knoxville: Summer of 1915.
She concludes this album with her interpretation of three songs by Björk in an orchestration commissioned from the Swedish composer and arranger Hans Ek, recorded for the first time as well.
For this album, Renée Fleming is accompanied by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic conducted by Sakari Oramo.
