Luca Marenzio was the most brilliant representative of the sublime art of the madrigal in the last twenty years of the 16th century. While the style of his early works is light, fluid, and transparent, his language then evolves towards greater complexity and introspection, making him the most emblematic musical example of the melancholy of the late Renaissance. Amoroso & crudo stile brings together some of Marenzio's most beautiful madrigals to illustrate the most intimate facets of this music of extraordinary beauty and intense humanity.
