More than 20 top-class jazz musicians gathered in July 1965 for a jazz workshop at the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen and recorded a total of 17 tracks. Nine tracks from the recording were to be released the same year as the first double LP on Villingen's young jazz label, SABA (the predecessor of MPS). Everything had been prepared for this, but it never happened. It's not entirely clear why, as everything was technically ready for release. Hans Koller, Rolf Kühn, Leo Wright, Benny Bailey, Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Ross, Stuff Smith, and many other major players from the jazz scene at the time were involved. However, the two master tapes were never pressed onto disc and lay unheard for many years in the MPS archives in Villingen. In 2018, on the occasion of MPS's 50th anniversary, this gap was filled: the double LP, which was to be released under the title "Junges Forum 65" by SABA, was released by HGBSBlue in a limited edition and is now also available here. Even today, almost 60 years after its recording, the music from the workshop ensemble is full of sparkling creativity. It features first-rate jazz based on bebop, which was played in Europe at the time by an extremely creative and committed generation of musicians. A listening pleasure for every jazz lover on the one hand, but also a wonderful documented piece of history captured on this double LP.
