At the time of this second album, Rod had joined the Faces (ex-Small), but had also started a solo career in parallel. Finally, his backing musicians on this album are… the Faces. And that’s just as well: what a band! Essentially acoustic, Ron Wood’s guitars are whipped along with a near-punk rage. Rod, for his part, sings as always (at the time), magnificently, as if he were drunk in a pub with his mates and didn’t care, thus giving his very best. Six covers out of nine tracks, nothing but the good stuff, like It's All Over Now as a nod to the Stones, My Way Of Giving by the Small Faces (the family, always) and Only A Hobo, in the running for the title of best version of a Bob Dylan song (and there is competition).
