Robohands' new album, Palms, is the fifth from London-based instrumentalist and producer Andy Baxter. Moving into different genres and arrangements from his previous records, Palms features harp parts, tape echo, double bass and draws inspiration from artists such as Dorothy Ashby, Azimuth, Alice Coltrane and Toquinho. At times tropical and synth-drenched, at others stripped-back and acoustic, Palms is a journey into the saturated analogue recordings of the late 60s and 70s. The album also references jazz fusion classics that utilise the legendary Arp Odyssey synthesizer, used by artists such as Herbie Hancock and George Duke. Palms is a new direction for his project and an album that explores modern reinterpretations of jazz, downtempo, acoustic and ambient music.
