With Pärt & Songs, Roberto Negro imagines a singular form around the music of Arvo Pärt. He performs several of his early piano works, while making these pieces the raw material for new compositions, songs, and improvisations. Short motifs taken directly from the works on the album are transformed, circulate, and reappear in other forms, creating a continuity between the world of Pärt and that of Roberto Negro. This musical material is answered by texts from contemporary women poets such as Alejandra Pizarnik, Laura Liberale, or Jin Eun-young. Piano, voice, writing, and improvisation are no longer seen as separate territories, but as different expressions of the same movement.
