Missa Benevola / Jephte

The second in the I Fagiolini series explores the "Colossal Baroque" and the dazzling multi-choir sound world of Orazio Benevoli – a crucial figure in 17th-century Italian music. The work on this new recording, 'Missa Benevola', is enhanced with an even more instrumental color to allow the ear to appreciate the interplay between the four choirs. At the same time, the famous Jephte by Carissimi is transposed to a lower tessitura, the one used in Rome at that time. This infuses a deeper color into the solo voices and its famous final choir. All the masses in the Benevoli series by I Fagiolini are first recordings.
