Rindert Lammers' debut album is a heartfelt exploration of gratitude, blending personal narratives with cinematic imagery in a serene and soulful ambient jazz style. Inspired by Japanese cinema and the raw authenticity of YouTube comments, the album captures an atmosphere of introspection and appreciation. The title track, "Thank You, Kirin Kiki," inspired by a pivotal scene from the film Shoplifters, lies at the album's core. While the theme of Japan and Tokyo is present throughout the tracks, Lammers doesn't consider the album a tribute to Japan or Tokyo in particular - he's never been there and admits to knowing only fragments of the culture. Yet, he's drawn to Japanese environmental music and is an avid reader of Murakami, for whom Japan is a powerful source of visual inspiration. In a way, the album is also his "thank you" to the beautiful art Japan has shared with the world.
