The Blue Notebooks

Description

The Blue Notebooks is the second solo album by Max Richter, a unique and adventurous project, beautifully produced and aiming to be resolutely cinematic. The track On the Nature of Daylight has appeared in numerous large-scale film productions, notably in Shutter Island by Martin Scorsese, while Shadow Journal and Organum feature in the soundtrack of Waltz with Bashir. The neo-classical compositions of the album are interspersed with texts extracted from the Cahiers in-octavo by Franz Kafka and L'hymne à la perle and Terre inépuisable by Czeslaw Milosz, read by British actress Tilda Swinton. The program navigates between the soul-wrenching strings of On the Nature of Daylight and more lyrical piano compositions. Richter also uses electronic instruments and occasionally recordings captured outside the studio.
