Free Spirits

Description

A quick glance at the contents of this recital reveals a seemingly very heterogeneous program: eight works spanning the entire 20th century, composed by composers of five different nationalities, both women and men. Yet a spirit of free thought permeates the whole album. All the composers represented here are what Edith Van Dyck and Richard Shaw call “free spirits”: men and women who chose their own path with great authenticity, defying dominant aesthetic dictates and censorship. These paths often led them toward nature, a source of inspiration and spiritual nourishment for them; for each of them, it found expression in music with a keen sense of refined lyricism and an organic sound world.
