With a voice reminiscent of Morrissey, Scott Walker, and Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley enters the very exclusive circle of exceptional singers. However, it is as a guitarist (with Pulp, Robbie Williams, All Saints, or Finley Quaye) that this man usually earns his living. Fortunately, Hawley decided one day to make his own albums. After a mini album ("Richard Hawley") as a first attempt, "Late Night Final" is a major shock. There is, of course, that astonishing voice, but the best is yet to come: fantastic compositions draped in high-fashion instrumentation. Between Lambchop and Scott Walker, the overall atmosphere of the album, perfectly soothing, sends the listener into hyper-space wanderings, while Hawley's baritone voice provides further comfort. A truly great record.
