Six Million Dollar Man

Description

Richard "Groove" Holmes began recording in the early 1960s, signing a series of superb albums rooted in the soul-jazz groove that earned him his nickname. When he joined the Flying Dutchman label in 1975, his style was already inimitable. Producer Bob Thiele paired him with arranger Oliver Nelson; the result of this collaboration is the remarkable album *Six Million Dollar Man*. Nelson composed the title track for the hit television series starring Lee Majors, and Holmes performs this theme with real virtuosity. The rest of the album is just as funky: Holmes shines on tracks such as *Disc-O-Mite*, *Once Is Not Enough*, *Dumpy Mama*, and *Double Scale*. Out of print on vinyl since its original release in the United States in 1975, this Ace Records edition is fully remastered and presented in a gatefold sleeve reproducing the original artwork.
